3 Sure Ways To Tackle The Issue Of Rape In Nigeria (READ & SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS)

Rape is fast becoming a national menace threatening the lives of young girls in Nigeria.

Some male Nigerian Youths no longer want to understand the concept of “consent” before sex. They want to take it by force whether the woman likes it or not.

The issue is becoming more worrisome nowadays to the extent that the perpetrators of rape do not only rape. They rape and kill.

Considering the tragic story of Uwa, the Uniben lady that was raped and killed in church premises, it is however important that Nigeria as a nation makes serious moves to eradicate or reduce the rape incidents in the country to the barest minimum.

We can no longer continue to lose young, beautiful, and promising girls to the wicked manhood of rapists.

Below Are 3 Ways We Think The Issue Of Rape Can Be Tackled In Nigeria

1. Rape Punishments Should Attract Capital Punishment

Yes, it is high time we amend Nigeria’s criminal law by adjusting punishments for rape to a death penalty instead of just 21years imprisonment.

Many young girls have been thrown into a life-time of agony and pains. It is more disgusting to hear news of 45-year-old having sex with 1-5 years old child.

For these kinds of men, death sentence of life-imprisonment should the only option for them.

2. Self-Defence Training Against Rape Should Be Added To Educational Activities

It is okay to trend #SayNoToRape hashtag, or #StopRapingWomen but we should ask ourselves how much has our society trained an average girl child on how to defend herself against rapists.

A well-trained girl will know where not to go alone and if alone and how to always protect herself.

This training should also include special combat against rapists. From primary school to tertiary institution, we need to start teaching our girls how to kick balls of rapists and cry for help.

3. Increase Media Awareness On #SayNoToRape

The media being the fourth estate of the realm has a role to play in tackling the menace of rape in Nigeria.

Radio, television, blogs, and other media outlets need to start making conscious efforts at using their platform to discourage men from the act of rape, enlighten them about the concept of consent, and let them know how huge the punishment for Rape is.

Whether it is Stooop!! or Stop Joor!! any stop is stop!!

The media needs to start educating young girls on how to prevent rape and the importance of speaking out and seek for help whenever they experience any sexual assault.

The End!!
