Topic: Giving The God Way
BIBLE READING: – Mark 12:41-44
The widow in our text was not only poor, she had few resources for making money. Her small gift was a sacrifice, but she gave willingly. The woman gave all she had; in contrast to the way most of us handle money. The woman gave sacrificially and that is like God. God gave us His all-Jesus Christ His only begotten son. From this story, Jesus was admonishing generous and sacrificial giving. In the Lord’s eyes, this poor widow gave more than all the others put together, though her gift was by far the smallest. The value of our giving is not determined by its amount but by the spirit in which it is given. As believers, we should consider increasing our giving-whether of money, time or talents to a point beyond convenience or safety. Giving the God way is giving sacrificially. When we give that way we always expect a release of God’s abundance.
The churches in Macedonia-Philippi, Thessalonica and Berea had given money. Even though they were poor they had given more than Paul expected. This was sacrificial giving-they were poor themselves, but they wanted to help. The point of giving is not so much the amount we give, but why and how we give. Let us learn from God and give the way He gives.
Prayer: Oh Lord give me a heart to give sacrificially, toward the gospel
