Topic: Painful Experiences
Bible Reading: – Genesis 37:6-28
Joseph like all men had his inadequacies. He was naturally self-confident and was not sensitive to others’ feelings. God had shown him through two dreams, that he would someday be great. Joseph however related these dreams to his family in a cocky and boastful manner.
The fact that he was clearly his father’s favourite son, already made his brothers jealous of him. His brothers hated him even more after bragging about his dreams, and eventually sold him into slavery to get rid of him.
As Joseph grew, he became a lot wiser. He learned that all we have including our talents and knowledge come from God, and it is more appropriate to thank Him for them. {Genesis 41:16} His self-confidence changed into a quiet and powerful confidence in God through his painful experiences.
God used the hardship he faced when he was betrayed by his brothers, tempted, imprisoned and forgotten by those he helped, to teach him to trust in God alone. In the end, his experience made him a better person. God sometimes teaches us through unpleasant experiences to place our complete confidence in Him. When we do this, it would be clear that He is with us in all we do just like he was with Joseph.
THOUGHT: EVEN IN OUR PAIN, WE CAN FIND GAIN IF WE TRUST GOD COMPLETELY.
