Topic: The Perfect Example
Bible Reading: – Luke 23:18-46
He {Jesus} had been betrayed by one of His chosen twelve, deserted by the others, He was mocked, beaten and tried. Accused and even when found innocent of the charges against Him, He was sentenced to be put to death by crucifixion.
Hung on a cross like a common criminal and mocked by those who shouted Hosanna a week earlier, He endured the indignity of having his clothes stripped and lots cast for them. Through all the beating, pain and humiliation, what did he do or say?
“Father forgive them for they know not what they do” In spite of the shame, Jesus still pleaded forgiveness for those who crucified him. That is why Jesus is our perfect example of a forgiving spirit; with His life ebbing away He sought forgiveness for His persecutors.
We also have a duty; a duty not an option to forgive others; if Jesus our example could forgive His persecutors, we should seek to be like Him to do the same. In a world that bears a grudge we must exhibit that forgiving spirit.
Thought: Unforgiving spirit see what is wrong, but forgiving spirit PRAY for what is RIGHT
Prayer: Oh Lord help me to forgive even when it is difficult to forgive.
