Topic: Speaking The Truth To One Another
Bible Reading: – Ephesians 4:1-15
Jesus taught that our regenerated hearts should radiate God’s holiness in such depth that we do not need to swear or make an oath for people to believe our word or hold us to what we say. Before we proceed, we spend one more day to meditate on the requirement of ‘truth in the inward part’, which was our prayer yesterday.
God wants His relationship with us, and our relationship with one another to be grounded in trust. God’s people are called to keep their word, even if they make promises that are tough to keep. The only promises we ought not to keep are promises that lead to sin.
A wise and self-controlled person avoids making rash promises. How sad that among Christians today, we do not experience such depth of trust. Too often promises are broken without a qualm. People of the household of faith have become increasingly accommodating of outright lies and half-truths, ‘re-arranged’ or dissembled truths.
Lies come from fear- fear of what others might think or fear of being found out – and yet we also know that one lie or untruth always requires another. Lies are associated with the un-regenerated heart. The regenerated heart is governed by love, and perfect love cast out all fear.
Beloved in the Lord, “do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds” Colossians 3:9.
PRAYER: TEACH ME, O LORD, THE WAY OF YOUR STATUTES; AND I SHALL KEEP IT UNTO THE END.
