The Rapid State Of Divorce In Nupe Kingdom – Yusuf Usman Yahaya

THE RAPID STATE OF DIVORCE IN NUPE KINGDOM.

Kin Nupe has over the years maintained a steering image that is blessed with individuals who are by far and near known to be a respecter of a person without discrimination.

Badly, as we journey into a clime called civilization and development almost the thing the Nupes were not known for become prevalent in our immediate communities which are detrimental to the overall image of the Nupes.

Wedding ceremonies and marriage life are two different types of things that mostly have been misunderstood by the vast majority of people today. It takes money to have a wedding done but it takes a whole lot of commitment, sacrifice, and patience to have a working marriage.

Patience is the fulcrum in which marriage is built and one of the genesis that has made divorce common in today’s world, especially in Nupe land is the lack of patience and the understanding of the concept called marriage. Intending couples should have in mind that the wedding is a day affair while marriage is a lifetime affair and such decisions about marriage should be studied and taken seriously.

After carefully scrutinizing the issue of the high rate of divorce in Kin Nupe. Here are some of its causes:

*Deception by the men folks to woe females
* Lack of proper moral upbringing of children:
*Peer group
*Religious scholar’s inability to admonish the people on marriage pristine tenets.

The possible solutions to curtail this uncultured act in the Nupe Kingdom:

The deception by the men folks should be put in check; it costs nothing, to be honest, and truthful to your partner hence marriage is a lifetime affair coated with unshaken commitment.

Lack of moral upbringing of children: Parents should not relent in bringing up their children in proper manner and mannerism, teaching children about marriage and keep guiding them in the right direction. Society should not also be left out in the proper upbringing of a child.

The peer group influence: Women tend to bow to the dictates of peer groups whereas stopping them from being submissive to their husbands, has contributed immensely to the high rate of divorce in the Nupe Kingdom.

The Religious Scholars: Over the years religious scholars made it a daily routine to lecture or talk about marital issues but unfortunately for us, some of these religious scholars are relenting in discharging this duty. hence the need for them to get back on track as their voices will help in curtailing the high rate of divorce that has become endemic in our society.
